living room

After my mother's house had been sold I decided to animate a film of a photograph of the living room. Unlike the other films whose frames were made one at a time, on this occasion I used a video camera and filmed the actual photograph zooming in on areas of interest around the room in an effort to see them more clearly. The more I zoom in the more blurred the image becomes and the inadequacies of the photograph are revealed. The closer I explore the photograph the more frustrating it becomes. The film becomes a record of my looking. The room contains my mother's paintings of me and my sister, photographs of us and her grandchildren, and a photograph of a self portrait I did at art college. However it seems that any dialogue between these images and the viewer is thwarted by technology.
